When you think about this stage of your life, how does it make you feel?
Giddy with Joy?
Lost and Dismayed?
All of the above?
Are you dreaming about it, dreading it, or denying that it’s headed your way?
Let’s face it. Having a child rocked your world in every sense of the word. Everything changed – your priorities, your interests, your relationships, and most of all, you. You held their hand while they discovered the world. Now, they’re grown and taking command of their own journey, and you see a whole new world on your horizon.
How to Feather an Empty Nest is a four session workshop that will help you explore every inch of it!
Each session focuses on a critical element of your life:
- Your new relationship with your children;
- Your spouse or significant other;
- Your friendships; and
- last but not least, YOU!
You’ll reflect upon how each sphere of your life is changing and create a personal roadmap that leads the way to live life happy and in a meaningful and fulfilling way.
Session 1: Redefining “Mom”
He will always be your son. She will always be your daughter. But at some point, they cease to be your children. You’ve raised them to be strong and independent, and wished for them to be happy and fulfilled. Now that you’ve done your job well, what is your place in their lives? In this session we’ll discuss the occasionally treacherous terrain of redefining the relationship with our adult children.
You’re a couple again. But you aren’t the same people you were when you started down the road hand in hand. You have time and energy to focus on each other—what does being together look like in this next chapter of your lives? Define what would create happiness and fulfillment as a couple growing together.
Session 3: One is silver and the other’s gold
We developed many of our friendships though our kids’ school, sports, and extracurricular activities, while others fell to the wayside. How do you stay connected to the people that you value without having the kid connection while transitioning out of relationships that no longer fit? How do you rekindle friendships that have been ignored for too long, or create new ones that mirror your interests? In this session, we’ll explore how to develop friendships and affiliations that bring us joy and energy.
Session 4: It is all about you!
The final session is probably the most important. It’s time to take stock of where you are and reconnect with the woman behind the title of Mom. You have spent the last 18 plus years striving to make your children the best they can be, now is the time to create your best you. Is your life balanced and healthy? Does it have purpose and meaning? Is it time to kick your career into high gear, or pursue a new one? Develop a deep appreciation for who you are, and put yourself back at the center of your own life.
